The Job No One Could Build!
When Hunter Roberts needed three parallel medium voltage electrical services delivered in a tight 14 month schedule- they chose EGG Electric. In 2012, as part of the New NY Science and Technology Center at the Brooklyn Army Terminal, EGG rapidly installed redundant power systems to convert 350,000 SF of warehouse space into core and shell for cutting edge science labs. Our upgrade work also included sleek architectural lighting for Lobbies and common spaces, power to a new mechanical penthouse, and full fitout of a test-fit laboratory being installed for leasing purposes.
The project challenges included engineering a four city block long underground ductbank that ran across existing railroad tracks, to connect the new facility to the existing power grid, and also the planning and installation of new concrete encased power risers within the existing building.
EGG’s expertise in core and shell infrastructure shined within the tight constraints of the space and schedule, as feeders were spliced and controls installed/tested in less than four months. In critical moment of the project, over 20 massive pieces of electrical switchgear had to be lifted up through an existing elevator shaft to be set in the upper floor electrical- through openings leaving mere inches to spare.
The project was a great success- EGG delivered complete live power on schedule, allowing for an on-time opening of the facility. It was a privilege for us to work with Hunter Roberts on such a thrilling project.
Noteworthy:
EGG had to order Specialty Power Cable months before it’s ductbanks were even built to meet tight project schedule- so our logistics, layout and install all had to be precision accurate for success!
