New York University – Physics Department

In 2016, New York University expanded its physics department in a state of the art academic laboratory located at 726 Broadway, and EGG Electric was contracted to install the entire electrical system. Working closely with Turner Construction, the EGG team used our expertise in infrastructure, educational and laboratory fitouts to deliver the cutting edge project. Our scope included three floors of physics labs, meeting and administrative spaces, as well as a Rooftop mechanical penthouse and new core power risers to feed the facility. EGG also installed a new rooftop generator set and the dedicated emergency power system to supply the physics department with power.

EGG provided electrical solutions to many challenges on the Physics department, ranging from optimization of conduit layouts on the roof and inside the building, to mockups and detailing of custom optical lab benches NYU required. A great challenge was part of EGG’s work being installed within an existing bookstore – the store remained open and unaffected throughout the installation, a testament to the professionalism of EGG’s electricians. The team utilized building information modeling on every aspect of the job, and partnered it with laser guided layout to ensure the planned design was implemented precisely.

Building the NYU Department of Physics new facility was a rewarding project for EGG, allowing us to bring great client value from past experience, while further honing our capability to deliver high-tech educational spaces on time.

Noteworthy:

NYU Physics was a paperless jobsite – the EGG field used smart phones and tablets with “live drawings” to receive and relay information on project status on an hourly basis, and to access 3d models and design – reducing miscommunication and reinstalls based on out of date drawings!
